Building our Village Wall: Baby Dedication

Another "attempt" at a family portrait! Eek! First time in Matching outfits for the Boys!

It takes a Village. It takes a Wall.

Neimiah 6:15-16

So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days.  When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.

I have been learning about the significance of the Walls that surrounded cities back in the days of the Old Testament. What is a city with no Walls? What is a Temple within a village with no Wall to protect it? Without a wall, the ways of the world can seep through a village and make us stray from what is true and just, without a wall we are exposed.  The Book of Neimiah is a great start to unveiling the importance of the Wall and depicts the story of how Neimiah became god appointed to rebuild the Walls of Jerusalem and then to rebuild the broken people.

When I read this verse above it shakes me, because it is just a reminder that the enemy (i.e. devil) and all that is of this world will quiver and shake when they see what God has done and what God is protecting.  As a mother in general, and ecpsecially now a mother of child with Special needs, I become “mamma bear” …always needing to protect. Accepting that I am powerless to protect with out sitting at the right hand of the Lord is humbling and at the same time motivating.  It drives me to seek him harder then ever before. To see his Wall built and rebuilt around my family.

Why a Wall? Why a Village? No doubt are we aware and no doubt are we braced for the challenges that come in raising a family today. We are not blind to the pity, words, or looks that may come into our Grady’s Path throughout his years.  How safe will our Grady feel knowing he has his villagers, how protected will he feel knowing the wall that protects him.  What better way to start in preparation for our sons then to build… It is our family vision.

Dear Grady,

A Village is growing around you.  Can  you see them yet ? Do you see the shadow of Mighty Wall that has been building up around you.  The wall is a structure of Love & Support & Strength and unconditional faithfulness. The wall is symbol to enemies to stear clear for you are protected by a powerful God. Our Faith In the Lord has allowed us to pray for these villagers and he has blessed us with them.  One by one they grow, handpicked for you by  God…your village grows. One by one, they build.

Some of these villagers loved upon us when you were still in my womb, a solid contribution to the foundation. Some have just met you and are taking part in the bricklaying. Some watch and pray from a distance but their virtual/physical distance makes them no less your villagers.  Your village consists of most importantly a Powerful and Almighty God, a daddy, mommy and brother, Grandparents, aunt’s and uncle’s (some familial some friend… Aunt or Uncle no less) A church family who have been eager to hold you and are just as eager to watch you grow in Christ. You now have GodParents appointed by us to be a guiding light in your faith, villagers whom which will continue to love on you and share the Good News with you all the days of your life….your Aunt Kelly and Uncle Kenny are just the faithful believers for this important job. We did the same for your brother Mason, Aunt Sara and Uncle James are his GodParents, both pillars of  faith to which love and guide.  Your tiny villagers are growing around you, to one day hold your hand. We continue to pray for the villagers yet to come. The builders in waiting.

Uncle Kenny and Aunt Kelly...your God Parents!

You were dedicated at Church Today with your big brother. This ceremony consists of our promise to God as your mother and father to raise you both up and make Christ the center of our Village. We will rebuild these walls when necessary, constantly repairing, constantly growing…. so all those who encompass your village know who is in Charge.

“I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD.” – 1 Samuel 1:26

Love Always in Him,

Mommy

…more pictures to come! Many thanks to those who came today to the Baby dedication and the Brunch afterwards, your fellowship and Love is cherished.
